Medical Reports Policy
What reports do you undertake?
Queensbridge Group Practice undertakes a number of private medical reports. The most common reports we undertake are Private Carriage Office (PCO) medicals and Adoption Medicals.
If your medical report is not a PCO or adoption medical then please be advised that we may not be able to undertake the work. Please bring a copy of the report required for the attention of Betty Murphy. She will then be able to check with the doctor whether this work is possible to undertake.
Do you complete Marathon or Sports Medicals?
We are not sports medicine specialists. However, a number of events request that participants have a signed letter from their GP stating they are fit to compete. Where possible we will endeavour to support participants by completing such reports – though the GP will make clear on the form the extent of the assessment undertaken (typically a review of the patient’s medical notes).
What happens if I require further tests as part of my medical report?
Some reports may request that a patient has further tests done. For example, certain immigration forms will require a patient has an up to date chest x-ray performed. Please be aware that such tests, unless there is a clinical indication for them, will have to be arranged privately and a payment will be required. In most cases you will have to arrange the tests yourself.
Can you view x-ray images done privately?
Please be aware that Queensbridge Group Practice does not have the facilities to view x-ray images undertaken privately. If you are having such tests done you must ensure that a report is also provide to you with the image.
How long does a obtaining a medical report take?
For PCOs and Adoption medicals we endeavour to arrange an appointment within three weeks of the request. Sometimes this can be slightly longer depending on the time of year the request is made. After seeing you the doctor may need some time to review your notes. If there are no concerns then the report should be complete one week after the medical has taken place. Where further tests are required after seeing the doctor, this can take more time.
For other medical reports the doctor must first review the report before an appointment is made for the assessment. If they are unable to carry out the work you will be required to have the report done privately.
Where we do not need the patient to see a GP for completion of the form, we aim to complete most forms within 10 working days of receipt from the patient – if we feel that this will be problematic, we inform the patient of the likely timescale, and discuss options if necessary. If a fee is payable, then we will advise the patient at this point.
In some cases, the patient requests a response / completion in a shorter timescale, and in these circumstances, we look for a solution that can work.
When do I pay for my medical report?
All payments must be made before you see the doctor for the appointment.
The Use of a Third Party Company Process Medical Reports
Please note: From 01 July 2023, Queensbridge Group Practice use a Third Party Company to process Medical Records and Subject Access Requests (apart from requests that require a GP opinion or a physical assessment). This is to ensure that we try to free up clinicians time to focus on patient care.
We use a processor, iGPR Technologies Limited (“iGPR”), to assist us with responding to report requests relating to your patient data, such as subject access requests that you submit to us (or that someone acting on your behalf submits to us) and report requests that insurers submit to us under the Access to Medical Records Act 1988 in relation to a life insurance policy that you hold or that you are applying for.
